Boxes in the Courtyard – An Exhibition
6 May 2017
Artreach India and the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, in partnership with Udayan Care, present artworks made by 19 young adults who participated in the year-long Teaching Fellowship programme which was supported by KNMA. The title of the exhibition draws from a day of playful installations with empty cartons in the open courtyard of Udayan Care Ghar in Greater Noida – the site of the fellowship programme. Artreach India’s second teaching fellowship was conceptualized and led by Vandana Kothari, artist and Assistant Professor at the School of Planning and Architecture, who was selected through an open call, interview and trial workshop. The 19 children from Udayan Care (ages 13-16) were selected for the programme based on interest and aptitude.
The artworks by Santosh, Sarita, Anjali, Bansi, Rani, Jyoti, Madhur, Sonal, Vanshita, Santosh, Manish, Chameli, Kajal, Gulfiza, Mathura, Shanti, Papiya, Sheetal and Marjeena include large self-portraits as scroll paintings, line and ink drawings, fresh watercolour lifestudies, intensely creative collages, an abstract collaborative enamel relief, among others.
