The Need for Reflection, Repair and Rest
A collateral program of Our Time for a Future Caring’, India Pavilion at 58th Venice Biennale
Venue: India Pavilion, Arsenale, Venice
The program will include sessions, lectures and panels discussing the exhibition Our Time for a Future Caring presented at the India Pavilion which critically engages with the figure and philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi. It will begin with the session ‘Reinstating the India Pavilion: New Partnerships’ by Kiran Nadar, Founder & Chairperson, KNMA.
Tarana Sawhney, Chairperson, Art and Culture Taskforce, CII will give her remarks on the exhibition in ‘Responses to India Pavilion: A Reviewing.’
Roobina Karode, Director and Chief Curator of KNMA will discuss her experience in curating the India Pavilion in the session ‘Staging a Curatorial Premise for Our Time for a Future Caring.’
Ritu Sharma, Director, National Gallery of Modern Art will discuss the involvement of the Indian Government in the field of art in the session ‘Government’s Role and Initiatives in Promoting Art.’
This will be followed by a lecture on Gandhi titled ‘Artfully Walking with Gandhi’ by Prof.Sumathi Ramaswamy, Professor of History, Duke University. This session will be moderated by Gayatri Sinha.
The second half of the day will include the session on ‘The Space of Retelling: Commemorative exhibitions, Timelines and Fugitivity vis-à-vis India Pavilion in Venice by Akansha Rastogi, Senior Curator,KNMA.
The lecture on ‘Gandhi, Nandalal and Other Engagements with Gandhi: A Santiniketan Perspective’ will be delivered by Prof R Siva Kumar, Art Historian and Professor, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan.
The program will conclude with the session – ‘A Temporary Layering with Artists’ Interventions’ with participating artists Shakuntala Kulkarni, Jitish Kallat, GR Iranna, Atul Dodiya and Ashim Purkayastha.
