Invitation for a Coup with PALLAVI PAUL
The intimate conversation took place in the central gallery amidst the big acrylic canvases of Jeram Patel on display. The subdued setting allowed for close reflections on her presentation regarding her three works, ‘Shabdakosh’ and ‘Nayi Kheti’, chronicling speculative encounters between the late people’s poet Vidrohi (based in Jawaharlal Nehru University) and the Spanish poet Garcia Lorca. Besides these, she shared her very unique project about Indian-origin British SOE (Special Operations Executive) Noor Inayat Khan. The conversation followed by an interactive process of allowing the audiences to engage with her archival objects such as a scroll layered with morse codes juxtaposed with the life history of Noor Inayat Khan; also now obsolete manual encryption techniques like Playfair Cards used by British forces. The highlight of the evening was the audience engaging with the morse code and spoken word and working up random short and rather poetic sentences using the Playfair cards
