Aesthetic Bind: Concept and Curation
24 April 2018
An Illustrated lecture by Geeta Kapur
Discussant: Latika Gupta
Geeta Kapur elaborates on the curatorial framework, questions and challenges around curating a set of five exhibitions ‘Aesthetic Bind’ at Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai in 2014-2015. This lecture marks the release of the book commemorating 50 years of Chemould Gallery by Mrs. Kiran Nadar and Roobina Karode. Shireen Gandhy takes us through the journey of Gallery Chemould, founded in 1963 by late Kekoo and Khorshed Gandhy, one of the oldest established commercial art galleries which she joined in 1988 and added a new dynamism to its programme by spearheading a particular focus on young emerging artists with an experimental and interdisciplinary approach to practice and media. Geeta Kapur in conversation with Latika Gupta examine the novelty of the position of critic-curator, and Kapur’s approach towards curation with examples of her other exhibitions at Tate Modern and National Gallery of Modern Art. This lecture is organized in collaboration with Chemould Prescott Road.
