Addressing the City : The Changing Urban Landscape
2 December 2011
Panelists: Ram Kumar, Sudhir Patwardhan, Atul Bhalla, Pooja Iranna
Moderator: Prayag Shukla
Discussant: Roobina Karode
The inaugural exhibition at KNMA Saket, 'Time Unfolded' received encouraging responses from the general public and the art fraternity alike, with record footfalls. There was a panel discussion based on 'City and the Changing Landscape', one of the sub-themes of the exhibition. The participating artists in the panel presented their works and addressed the complex structures of city, urbanism and ways of expansion and exclusion in the context of transforming cities in India. From the alienating structure of modern cities in the early works of Ram Kumar, the discussion moved to Sudhir Patwardhan’s engagement over the decades with the city of Bombay, the construction sites, commotion and noise of developing cities in Pooja Iranna’s video and issues of water, hygiene and health of cities in Bhalla’s work.
