Kiran Nadar Museum of Art presents the online series, 'Revelations' where artists expound on their practice, sharing moments of creative discovery and insights into their art-making. The third from the series will unfold a dialogue between Jayashree Chakravarty and Roobina Karode.
Jayashree Chakravarty was born in 1956 in Khowai, a riverine town in Tripura. She completed her BFA from Visva Bharati in Shantiniketan and later on obtained a post graduate diploma in Fine Arts from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda. From 1993 – 95, she was as an artist- in – residence at Aix en Provence. Interactions with contrasting cultures, the idea of memory and investigation of a natural past within an urbanscape came to influence the artist’s practice. Her works comprise of dream-like installations and paintings composed of experimental self-made material through the method of layering. She lives and works in Kolkata.
