Kiran Nadar Museum of Art presents the online series, 'Revelations' where artists expound on their practice, sharing moments of creative discovery and insights into their art-making. The second from the series will unfold a dialogue between Atul Dodiya and Roobina Karode.
Atul Dodiya (b.1959, Mumbai) studied at the J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai and later at the École des Beaux-Arts Paris. Dodiya introduced a new visual lexicon to the Indian art scene in the 1990s with his ‘photo real’ treatment of images and narratives loaded with cultural reference. His awareness of cultural history extensively shows in his artworks, which are a result of his long engagement with the works of artists like Bhupen Khakhar and David Hockney etc., and an array of cultural produce from films to literature, and letters to epics. Some of his recent shows include Our Time for Future Caring, India Pavilion, Venice Biennale, 2019; 7000 Museums: A Project for the Republic of India, Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Mumbai, 2014-15; Is It What You Think? Ruminations on Time, Memory and Site, KNMA, New Delhi, 2014; Experiments with Truth: Atul Dodiya, works 1981-2013; National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, 2013 among others.
