We are pleased to present the inaugural lecture of a series of talks & conversations around the ongoing exhibition. Pop South Asia: the Artistic Explorationsin the Popular with artist pedagogue Dhali Al Mamoon.
Born in 1958 in Chandpur, Bangladesh, Dhali Al Mamoon received his post-diploma degree in printmaking at Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan WB, India. After earning his Masters’s degree in Fine Arts at the University of Chittagong, he moved to the Berlin University of Arts upon receiving a DAAD fellowship at HDK from 1993 to 1994. Currently based in Chittagong, he is one of the finest contemporary artists of our era.
Mamoon's work has been presented in a number of solo and group exhibitions, including “Wooden Lord” ‘HANDS' ADKDW Akademe Der Kunst Der Welt, Koln, Germany (2021); DAS Dhaka Art Summit, Dhaka, Bangladesh (2020); Bangladesh Pavilion, 1st Kathmandu Triennial, (2017) Nepal ; Time, Coincidence and History, Bengal Shilpalaya, Dhaka, (2016/17) Bangladesh ; 55th Venice biennale, Bangladesh Pavilion (2013),Venice ; Aponayon ( Elimination), Bengal lounge, Dhaka, Bangladesh.His work can be found in the collection of the Fukuoka Asian art Museum, Fukuoka, Japan; Institute fur Medien kultur und Theater, Universitat zu Koln, Germany ; Ibsen Museum, Norway; National Museum, Dhaka, Bangladesh ; University Museum, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh.
